1Solo exhibition  MARE NOSTRUM Visioni dal blu in CEAS in Laguna di Nora and in Centro Recupero Tartarughe Marine by Tiziana Sanna

I've been reflecting on issues related to marine pollution for some time. I'm in contact with the main sea turtle rescue centers in my region and with the Regional Network for the Conservation of Marine Fauna, where I've been able to admire some of these extraordinary specimens in person, observing their colors and characteristics up close.

In their lives, sea turtles face various dangers, many of which are due to human activities: the high level of human activity on beaches causes the reduction or disappearance of suitable nesting sites; impacts from boat and dinghy propellers and fishing activities cause often fatal injuries; and the presence of microplastics in the seas, which are mistaken for small fish or jellyfish and ingested, causes esophageal obstruction and suffocation, even resulting in death.

The problem of microplastics in the oceans was listed in 2018 by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) among the six most serious current environmental emergencies; the 14th goal of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources.

To protect this species and marine biodiversity, it has become essential to reduce plastic consumption, avoid throwing waste into the sea, and keep the oceans clean.
